Allan Taylor


Allan (Tate) Taylor was known as ’Mr Hockey’ because of his extensive involvement in hockey from its beginnings in Taree to the time of his untimely death.

He occupied the positions of President and Secretary of Manning Valley Hockey Association, Manning Valley Junior Hockey Association and Tigers Hockey Club.

During this time the number of teams playing hockey increased from 4 in 1954 to 16 by 1966.

Allan played goalkeeper as well as coaching club and representative teams. He held a state umpires badge and umpired local matches.

Allan was also publicity officer for the association and wrote weekly articles for the Manning River Times. He was a NSW State Junior Selector from 1961 for eight years and held the position of State Vice President.

In recognition of his efforts and achievements, the Association named one of the new synthetic grounds the Allan Taylor Field in his honour.
